Munchen

10-11 June 2011 Munchen

Walked back to the train Station. OBB train depart for Munchen every hour or so, pretty frequent, and we can hop into any red OBB trains. We decided to go for the 930am train. The bright red colour train came and we hopped on the train.

Very soon, we reached Munchen Hbf.

It is a rather grand station. Had German sausage for lunch. We proceed to take the metro to HI hostel. It is 3 stations away. The hostel is one of the nicest and cleanest we have ever come across. There is a little old tram car used for decoration of the hostel even.

We put down our luggage and took the metro to the Olympic Station. This is the last station of the line. We got down and walked to the stadium. Before long, heavy rain poured and we were stranded in the stadium.

Munchen is in Bavaria, which is the home to nice cars like BMW. After the rain subsided, we went back to the city and looked at some of the posh car show rooms. Pretty interesting show room concept they have. Munchen has been bombed very heavily during the WWII, so rebuilding made the whole city looked brand new. Very little old buildings survived, unlike other cities.

Internet café charges us based on traffic – the more people inside the café, the more expensive the rate is. We bought some credits and checked our mails in the evening.

The hostel was pretty empty. Rows and rows of neat but empty bunks. The next morning, we went for the breakfasts, it is probably the best we ever had in the entire hostel. So wide a spread! I ate to my heart content.
Nothing much planned today. On hindsight, we should have visited the Neuschwanstein Castle which is what Munchen is famous for! We just spent some time walking the city centre and lazed at the internet café.

Our flight is in the evening so we went back to the hostel to collect the baggage and took S8 to the airport. 4pm and we have to be on our way. Reached the airport and the lady hinted to us to make ourselves comfortable on the plane, which means there were going to be many empty seats available. True enough, there were only about a couple of passengers on board the plane. There were some Singapore students in the airport we saw, could be coming for Munich for some immersion program or something, from a local school. They were very fascinated by the porn magazines on the shelves of airport bookstores and had a fight among themselves whether they should help themselves to a copy.

So much for our Europe backpack trip. We will be back for sure!
